WWI Centenary Commemoration

The St Dunstan’s College Archive

Some 977 Old Dunstonians served in the forces during the Great War, 1914-1918. 233 of them died in the service of their country. The main memorial to their sacrifice is located in the Great Hall of the College.

Until now, the background stories relating to these men have been found in editions of The Chronicle, in archive photographs and in the Roll of Honour.

In this Centenary year of the outbreak of the Great War, it seemed fitting to make available to the current Dunstonian community the material held in the College Archive.

This more accessible and searchable digital archive is a tribute to those Dunstonians who served and who died in the Great War. It is the hope of the College that through this public archive more material will be discovered and our records extended over the next few years of commemoration. In this way, the story of the sacrifice made 100 years ago will become better understood and more widely known.

The College is grateful to all those who have already contributed and to SDS Heritage for their help in preparing this online tribute.

SDS Group would like to thank the School, the Archives and particularly Mrs. Jane Davies, Headmistress 2000 – 2014, whose instruction has allowed the web archive to be created.
